Trans-Alp: Day Seven
In the book of Garmin, chapter 8, it is written that the day consisted of 85.5km and took a total of 5hrs and 36mins of riding to complete taking in 1887 meters of climbing.
To be honest. I wasn’t looking forward too day seven. It was the last climb of the tour. The last time we’d pedal up and over an Alp and it was a sad event. We’d spent so much time planning the tour. Training for it. And on this day… It would all come to and end. One more mountain left to ride.
OK. Sentiment out-of-the-way… And the day started much like all the others. We had one climb to do. One big one. And it was up hill straight out the gate. Well… Almost. We first had to get through Belluno. But from then… Climbing all the way.
After a big street climb, we came across a rather busy intersection where the ski lift was running as a bike up-lift. We decided not to tell Left Ear about this and continued on bike. A short while later we got smoked by a fat guy on an e-bike. After spitting vitriol for some minutes (not because I hate e-bikes, but because it does crush ones spirit when you have been climbing for ages and some guy just whizzes past like you were standing still…) we waited for Left Ear Lopez. Left Ear also had many choice words of complaint about said e-bike…
Once we reached La Casera, and after a small drinks break, we left the street and began an epic climb on the hiking route. Past Lago di san Croce, to the top of the mountain (col Visentin) and the along the spine for a few kilometers until we picked up the fire road down.
After a break to catch our breaths and get rehydrated (temps were up around 35 this day…) we began the “last” descent of the tour. Another sketchy fire road until we picked up the street again.
After a quick blast down the street, we had to branch off and do a little more climbing to get onto the roads we needed to be on. This small detour took us on some really nice trails up and over Malga “cor”.
Once back on the street, all that was left to do was power on through to Ponte della Priula and our over night stop. In Ponte, we stayed at Hotel San Carlo. A pretty nice little hotel at a good rate. And just up the street we could get burgers. Legit burgers… That were so good. And then a couple meters down from the burger stop was this little ice-cream shop that made ice-cream that would melt your mind it was so good. Best Ice-cream. Ever!
And that was day seven. That was the end to the hard grind days. The only thing left for Pop Pop Left Ear Lopez and I to do was to board the Drewbles Express: The 08:00 Train to Venice.
